Joseph Gaylard

Joseph Gaylard is an organiser in the cultural field, with more than twenty-five years of experience in leading organisations, strategic research and driving advocacy. His professional life has been driven by a core interest in the movement of ideas, people and projects across the African continent. He recently completed a ten-year term as Head of Pro Helvetia Johannesburg, one of five international offices of the Swiss Arts Council. Previously the director of the Visual Arts Network of South Africa (VANSA) and a member of the Joubert Park Project collective, he has extensive experience in evaluations, impact assessments, policy development and industry research. He has collaborated with a range of public and private organisations both locally and internationally on strategic research in the field, including GOPA PACE, Andani Africa, IKS Consulting, the Christian Michelsen Institute, the HSRC, the CSIR, and Business and Arts South Arica. He has a BA Fine Art degree and a BA (honours) in History of Art, from the University of Cape Town.
